  • I started this update several weeks ago, but I couldn’t post it because I didn’t finish uploading the pictures. I’ve rewritten it many times since then, so… this is it!

    Right after my last update:

I had been working on my update in the evening of the 13th. Sigi called me that evening and when I told him what I was doing, he tried to get me to do it later, but I knew it had to be done then or I was not gonna find another chance to do it soon. He didn’t insist too much, but I put it aside while we were on the phone. As soon as we hung up, I finished it, and it was already the 14th when I actually posted it… I went to sleep, got up the next morning, and the day went by as usual. It was Valentine’s Day, so in the evening of course, we went out for dinner, and... Yes, we’ve been officially engaged since Valentine’s Day! Planning an April wedding…

    General work stuff:

Life’s been crazy as usual. Last semester, I had to add teaching hours to my already FULL schedule. I was teaching over 12 hours a day, and was terrible at keeping in touch with friends. (I’m really sorry about that! L I hope I do better in the future...) During this whole time, I was leaving home early in the morning (7:00 a.m.), coming back for lunch for about an hour, leaving again, and getting back at almost 9:00 p.m. to work on grading papers, lesson planning, and test making before going to bed. It was very tiring, but that’s over.

    May:

I turned 27 this year, and I’m very grateful for all that the Lord has given me, and the many ways He has blessed me; especially the way in which he has blessed the work of my hands. In the last few months God brought more students to English Corner. I was teaching 30 students at the time.

Here are a few pictures of English Corner’s 2005-2006 students:

Carolina was my student for two semesters, and is moving to the US for a year. Melissa and Ana are cousins. They were both in 9th grade, and were my students this school year.

    11.   Adults – Group 8: Sebastian, who enrolled in April, is the only adult I had by the time the school year ended. (No picture)

*Special Groups: Some of my regular students have asked me to open new groups to help them with their school work, explain what they didn’t understand well, and prepare them for their exams. They have also invited other classmates.

In my morning job, students got off in May, but even though classes were over, I was asked to develop and teach the preparation course for the newcomers. Although it was a lot of work to do in a week, God was good and everything turned out well. I was happy with the results, and the school was very pleased with my work, too.

    June was a packed month:

It was almost 2 pm on June 1st. I was on my way to work and a guy didn’t stop at a stop sign, so he hit me hard on the left side. Although my neck and back were injured, I was grateful it had not been anything bigger. I did have to wear a neck brace for 20 days though. It was such a pain! It was too hot here to wear something like that for so long!

A week before I was almost hit by a drunk guy, but thank God he saw me right before he was going to crash with me. I was about to go into the school’s parking lot, but I stopped to let one of my students go first. As I was waiting to turn, the guy threw out the window some beer bottles, and since he was so angry at my student, he wasn’t paying attention to the road while he was cursing at her. I got REALLY scared, because he was driving straight toward me and I wasn’t able to go anywhere. I was just waiting for the crash. Right before he was going to hit me, he looked ahead, saw me, and missed me.

    Also in June:

Nicole was here for a few days in the beginning of the month. It was so good to have her! It almost seemed unreal though. It was something we had talked about so many times over the years that we couldn’t believe it was actually happening! We had a great time. She flew into Monterrey on a Thursday, and Dad drove her down here. God worked it out that I got off work early, so we were able to spend a few hours just talking. In the evening, Mom, Dad, Nicole, and I went to eat some really good tacos.

I had asked permission to take Friday off to go see a doctor to help with my neck and back pain from the crash, and since Nicole had been to Mexico before, but had never been to Monterrey, we drove up to Monterrey for the day. We stopped at a couple of places on our way there: the doctor’s, and another place along the highway where we bought Mexican souvenirs. We continued our trip, got downtown and shopped around. Later in the day, we met with my sister and went to the movies. After dinner we drove back to Linares.

In Linares, I took Nicole to my little ESL school so she could see what I do, and also to Sigi’s shop so she could meet him. She took some pictures of my place, which I don’t think I had done before. I had only taken pictures of my students, but I’ll take the chance now to show you what it looks like…

Later in the day, our family had a cook out at the property where we are going to live, which is right outside of town.

    End of June:

I wrapped up English Corner’s school year with a Parent Presentation on the 29th. I rented a facility and fifteen students, including Preschool, Elementary, and some Junior High School students, had a part in it. The parents really enjoyed it.

    July – September:

I quit my morning job as the school year ended, July 7th. I enjoyed two months off work, which were really great because I was able to do a lot of wedding planning. I got back to work on September 4th, with no students enrolled for the school year. I knew that 4 of them weren’t coming back because they had moved: An eight-year-old student moved because of his mom’s job; two high school students moved to the US for a school year; and another one moved to Monterrey after graduating from high school, but I had no idea about the other twenty-six.

God is good though. During the first week, seven new students enrolled, and thirteen alumni came back; three of the seven new students are preschool children who enrolled as a result of the Parent Presentation in June.

    Final Words:

Thank you all for your patience in reading such a long update. J This is what’s happened in the past 7 months… I just hope it doesn’t take me very long to post my next update. God bless you all!

  • HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!

    Dear all,

I’m sorry for not updating in such a long time. You all are great at updating your web logs, but I just can’t keep up with it… Then, when I finally find the time to write something, I can’t think of anything interesting to write! I guess I’ll just tell you what I’ve been up to, even if it sounds familiar.—I feel I write the same stuff every time I send out an update. Anyway…

    At Work:

God is good; life is great; time flies; I never stop. I’m still keeping real busy. I continue teaching on the busy schedule I’ve been talking to you about for the past year and a half (7 am – 7 pm., sometimes later, and Saturdays, too).

My ESL school has grown over the past year, and things are just going great. Praise God, I keep an average of 23 students, so far. Although it is a good number of students, I hope it expands and grows even more in the months to come.

(students’ pictures will be posted later)

I continue teaching high school kids in the mornings at a private school here in town, although I’m planning to quit this job as soon as the school year is over. It’s been great, but I’m getting pretty tired. I want to take time to do things I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m also looking forward to just having some time for myself (and more time for Sigi, of course).

Speaking of him… Things are going great! He’s awesome!… Just the best that’s ever happened to me! We love each other so much and all I can say is that we’re looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together. (God willing we will finish our house this year, and will be able to plan a wedding next year.—Please pray for us.) He says “Hi!”

    Holidays:

Sigi spent Christmas Eve with my family, and I spent New Year’s Eve with his.

(sorry... don't know what happen to these two pictures )

    Vacation:

After many, many years, our family went on vacation. We spent almost a week (Dec. 26th – 30th) in Huatulco, Oaxaca, one of the beaches in the south of Mexico. We all enjoyed it very much. We were able to relax and forget about work, the city,… everything! It was a great time!

    Recently:

Just a couple weeks ago, Sigi’s youngest sister got married. I was able to meet most of his extended family, which is HUGE! I had already met some of them at different times: running into them, a cousin’s wedding, and other events, but this time they were all together, and definitely I had missed soooooooo many! Anyway, it was great to meet them all, or most of them… J My family was invited, too, so they got to meet some of them, too.

Well, I think that’s all for now… Thanks again for keeping in touch.

Hope you all have a blessed year!

  • Hey guys!

I know it’s been a while, but after you read my update I’m sure you’ll understand.

I want to thank you all for the comments you’ve posted. You guys are great! Although I don’t usually post messages on your sites, I want you to know that I always enjoy reading your updates.

I had July off—although I still taught an hour course every day to a couple of students who were moving to the States for a year. You’d say I was able to spend more time emailing or IMing people, right?... Well, that didn’t happen… Other “things” came up that kept me busy. I did relax though!... NO STRESS AT ALL! It felt soooooooo good! I was able to rest and store up energy for the new school year!

I continue with the same schedule I had last year (7:10 a.m. thru 7:30 p.m.). God continues to bless my little ESL school, and continues bringing new students. It can be very tiring at times, but ’m very grateful for work and for God’s blessings.

OK. Now the biggest and most awaited news… I’m COURTING / DATING / WHATEVER you wanna call it! J It’s been three weeks now since it became official.

This is why I hadn’t updated my xanga, IMed, or emailed you before. I've been a little busy… J

THE SCOOP?… Well, it’s a long story!... Short version: We met several months ago; IMed a lot for a couple of months; got along great and became really good friends. Some time later, he spoke to me about the way he had started to feel. We prayed about it and talked to my parents. Prayed some more; saw God draw our hearts to each other; FELL IN LOVE!!! The rest is history…

WHO IS HE? Well, he’s my next door neighbor downtown Linares—the town where I live now. Our businesses are in the same building, right next to each other. He was raised in a Christian family, too... He’s the best! J

  • Hey!

I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been a little busy… The school year is over, but I continue to teach a one hour a day course during week days, and I’ve done some traveling on the weekends, too.

    First, the school's graduation...

Then, my senior students invited me to go with them on their graduation trip to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco,  and we spent a long weekend down there. It was very relaxing! After the trip I came back to work for two more weeks.

On our way to the airport with       At the airport right before taking off

    two of their moms.

We had a very fun and relaxing time... but I got a really bad sunburn!

Ouch! That hurt!                  Our last night in Puerto Vallarta...

One last picture at the hotel       Our flight was delayed, so we had

It was a really nice place...             to wait a couple of hours.

    Some got tired of waiting...

The following weekend we celebrated Ana’s birthday, so I went up to Monterrey to have dinner with her and my family. They all had things going on up there so I came back early Sunday morning to prepare for my last school week.

As soon as we were done with school, three other teachers and I decided to drive down to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato for the weekend. It was so much fun. I had never visited there before, so it was really cool to visit around such an important place of Mexico’s history. San Miguel de Allende is a historical baroque city founded in 1542. It was a stage for important events and gathering center for the conspirators in favor to the independence during 1810. The houses, gardens, alleys, and fountains have been preserved, creating an enviroment for the art, where painters, musicians, sculptors, and writers, mexican and foreign, as well as visitors, can enjoy.

Pilar, her son, Max, Silvia, & Silvia

Probably the biggest church in town taken from my hotel window.

We had rainy days                           Ladies making and selling

but that just made it even                corn tortillas.

    more beautiful.

This last weekend I stayed home with my family. We had a cook out on Saturday and invited a friend to come along. Gonz really enjoyed a swing he put up while the rest of us visited.

Well, I hope you're all enjoying the summer. It sure is REALLY HOT down here! We're having temperatures of 118 F.

Anyway, time to go for now... Will be in touch!

    Love you all,

    Yo
